AAC Blocks

ACC Block

WHAT IS AAC BLOCKS?

Aerated autoclaved concrete (AAC) blocks are a high quality building material that offers a unique combination of strength, low weight, thermal insulation, sound absorption, unsurpassed fire resistance and unprecedented build ability. AAC is a steam cured mix of sand or pulverized fuel ash (PFA), cement, lime and aeration agent .The high pressure steam - curing in autoclaves achieves a physically and chemically stable product with an average density being approx. One fifth of normal concrete and one fourth of clay brick. AAC comprises myriads of tiny non-connecting air bubbles which give AAC its incredibly diverse qualities and make it a terrific insulator.AAC is a natural and non toxic construction material, saves energy and is friendly to your environment.

BRIEF HISTORY:

AAC (Aerated Autoclaved Concrete) is a technology developed in the mid-1920s by the Swedes .The aerating is caused by a reaction of mix of various material mainly consisting of Silica (through fly –ash) limestone cement & other .AAC blocks consist of around 80% air, this aerated material is processed through autoclaving which entails high pressurized curing of aerated material formed in cellular shapes , which are known as AAC elements.

BENEFITS OF USING AAC BLOCKS

SAVE CARPET AREA:

Use of thinner AAC blocks (6" instead of 9" exterior walls ) because of its excellent water barrier & insulation properties leads to an increase in floor space area between 3-5 %

COST SAVING:

Benefits light weight AAC Blocks drastically reduces the dead weight of the building resulting into reduction in steel ( Up to 27% ) and cement ( upto 20% ) structural cost savings. Being 8 times the size if clay brick, AAC Blocks wall construction involves 1/3rd the joints thus an overall mortar saving up to 66% Its automatic manufacturing process gives AAC Blocks an exceptional dimensional accuracy & smooth surfaces ,eliminating need of three coat plaster walls and allows for a final 6 mm skim coat.

SOUND PROOF:

AAC Blocks wall has an excellent sound transmission class (STC) rating of 44 result virtually soundproof interiors.

THERMAL INSULATION :

Highest thermal in the industry. Thus industry provides well insulated interiors keeping out warm air in summers and cold air in winters. AAC Blocks reduces Air conditioning costs by 30%

EARTHQUAKE RESISTANT:

Earthquake forced on structure are proportional to the weight of the building hence AAC Blocks shows excellent resistance to the earthquake forces .Regions of high seismic activity like Japan exclusively use AAC Blocks. It has been proven to withstand wind loads of category 5 tropical storms.

FIRE RESISTANT:

Best in class fire rating of 4 hours. The melting point of AAC Blocks is over 1600oc more than twice the typical temperature in a building fire of 650o c

ENERGY EFFICIENT:

AAC Blocks is 100% Green Building material & is a walling material of a choice in LEED @certified buildings (ITC Centre the highest rated green building has been built using AAC Blocks)
AAC Blocks is most energy & resource efficient in the sense that it uses least amount of energy & material per m3 of product .
Unlike brick manufacturing process which uses precious too layer agricultural soil, AAC Blocks uses fly Ash (65% of its weight) thus provides the most constructive solution to the nation’s fly –ash utilization problem

HIGH STRENGTH:

High pressure steam curing autoclaving process gives AAC Blocks unmatchable strength to weight ratio Higher then M150 concrete and far exceeds than Indian Building Code requirements.

WATER BARRIER:

Its structure does not allow for capillary action making it impervious to water. Its water barrier properties are further enhanced by adding silicon based additives Allows no water seepage:
Due to lowest “Water absorptive material”ratio only 20% in block compared to 65% in “Volume of block”.
Block compared to 65% in brick and absence of capillaries (so no capillary action ) , AAC block do not allow water seepage from exterior to interior of wall.

SAVES FERTILE LAND:

AAC Block uses fly ash wastage coming from thermal power & don’t require fertile clay , unlike red bricks manufacturing.

ENERGY EFFICIENT & REDUCE CARBON EMISSION:

AAC block manufacturing is most energy efficient process compared to other walling material which again helps to reduce carbon emission.

SAVES FUEL FOR TRANSPORTATION:

AAC being lightweight more volume of walling material (almost 3 times) can be transported in same carrier, saves fuel for transportation by 66%

GREEN BUILDING CERTIFICATES :

Because of above social and environment benefit, AAC Blocks are the material of choice for Green building Certifying Organization like LEED, IGBC BREEAM, DGNB CASBEE etc ..

MINIMUM WASTAGE:

Breakage of AAC blocks is negligible that is less than 5% which increase the utilization of the blocks.

WATER SAVER :

For the curing process of AAC block walls there is no need to water the blocks , only mortar joints need to be cured with water, saving the water consumption

MINIMUM STORAGE:

The manufacturing of AAC blocks does not get affected by seasons fluctuations due to which supply is available at all seasons so the AAC block buyer do not need to maintain large storage area for AAC blocks.
